If you are considering offering the flexibility of “hot desking” at your office, there are a few things you will want to consider before setting up this new system.
Employee morale and productivity should not be at risk when you decide to implement flexible working spaces. Because some employees will be losing their workspace, it is important that all employees understand the value and bonuses that flexible work spaces can provide to everyone involved and it isn’t just about the bottom line.
Make sure all employees have a dedicated personal locker for any of their own personal items. All employees should have their own lock and key. This new locker area should be clean and nicely furnished. It could be in a break room with comfortable chairs, a television, coffee area, lots of window, plants, etc.. When lunchtime or break time comes, employees really appreciate a place that is rejuvenating, and calm and sends that message that breaks are really necessary and management understands that a more productive employee takes time for themselves.
Employees should also have the option of having phones rerouted to their homes or cell phone, for those times when they are out of the office, on the road or working from home. They should also be able to access the room booking software to reserve a desk if they need to come into the office.
Having this flexibility is truly one of the best options a company can offer to their employees. With limited desk space, an employee doesn’t necessarily have to be in the office on a given day and this frees up the workspaces for those who do. Having the option to get some work done from home if the weather is uncooperative or a child is sick is a bonus that employees really appreciate. Hot desking is becoming more progressive and companies are finding that employees are happy and productive!
