Here in this space, we’ve discussed the tangible and intangible benefits of telecommuting for both the employee and the employer.

As long as roles are clearly defined, expectations managed, and the remote worker is effectively accommodated in office via a room scheduling software platform, all parties should be happy.

But today we’d like to examine another benefit: how telecommuting can improve the environment.  The most immediate benefit, naturally, is the reduction of automobile usage. Telecommuters do not commute to the office, and thereby consume less gas (which, of course, is a great side-benefit to the telecommuter.)

Less cars leads to less congestion on the roads; less congestion leads to safer driver conditions and fewer accidents.

And by encouraging telecommuting, businesses can drastically reduce or even eliminate office spaces, thereby saving on electricity bills.

Telecommuting is strongly encouraged by the Green Business Bureau, a third-party program devoted to helping businesses follow environmentally-friendly practices.
